Woke up to a brand new day today…the world has a new face…new direction…new possibilities…change is sometimes slow but in life it is a constant…everything will change sooner or later…fortunately at this juncture in time those who would have had us remain stuck in the past lost out and now must forge ahead with the more liberal of us onto new ventures and journeys into the future…to boldly go where we’ve never been before (to misquote Star Trek)…

I realize that I am a Canadian but I can’t help but feeling like a little brother to the big one to the south…and in that light today I feel a sense of elation, of accomplishment,  at having arrived at a destination who’s journey started so long ago…a difficult journey that took its toll on many along the way…it’s the end of the year 2008 and perhaps we can now say that we have truly  arrived in the 21st century…out of the shadows of the past and into the light of a brand new day…

I did shed a tear or two last night watching the results of the US election…but they were happy tears, tears of relief, tears of hope that perhaps we have conquered some of the divisiveness that has plague not only the US populace but other countries in the world…that finally we can look to our neighbors and no matter the color of their skin, no matter the difference in beliefs, we can say that we are truly in this all together and the only way to survive is to work together…there are still lots of challenges for this generation, for my kids and grandchildren, but I think we took a big step last night…that whatever we may be faced with, whatever obstacles are in front of us we can overcome…as President Obama said in his acceptance speech… Yes We Can!!!...Welcome to a new world…

TORONTO--Mike Holmes, star of Holmes on Homes and Canada’s Most Trusted Contractor is proud to announce that Canadian country music star Charlie Major will be supporting The Holmes Foundation on his latest tour for his new CD release “Shadows and Light”.

Charlie Major and his manager Woody Bowles had been looking for a cause for Charlie to support. Charlie was especially interested in something that had domestic impact for Canadians—and he found it close to home. To his manager’s home, that is. Woody was the victim of a renovation nightmare—the kind The Holmes Foundation was founded to help put an end to.

The mission of The Holmes Foundation is to ensure that all residential renovation and construction in Canada is done right–the first time.

The Holmes Foundation will do this by partnering with schools, businesses and governments to raise the profile and reputation of all skilled trades in Canada, using Mike Holmes' reputation to encourage young people to pursue careers in the skilled trades and to encourage employers to hire them. In addition, The Holmes Foundation provides information on careers in the building trades and will offer scholarships and bursaries to students pursuing training in these trades.

Charlie Major has always been known as a working man's artist and this foundation—in support of the skilled trades and the working man--is a perfect fit. Major says “I am proud to be associated with a homegrown organization like as The Holmes Foundation and with Mike Holmes-- whose mission is to further the educational opportunities for young people across this great land.”

Charlie's first event with Mike Holmes was the annual Lean On Me Day, August 5, 2007 where Major performed prior to a seminar which Holmes gave at the Beacon Hill Home Depot in Calgary, AB. On September 11, Mike and Charlie were co-presenters at the Canadian Country Music Awards Show. Their skit has been called one of the highlights of the evening.

Major will be doing interviews about The Holmes Foundation, and encouraging people to donate to the organization during his shows. Proceeds from the sale, at his shows, of his latest CD, “Shadows and Light” will be donated to the Foundation. CDs are also available on the Holmes On Holmes website, www.holmesonhomes.com.
